FHU-TRANSLAD is a university hospital federation dedicated to development of healthcare, research and education in the area of rare developmental disorder diseases. It is a collaboration of various clinical and research teams from the university hospitals of Dijon and Besançon, the federal university of Bourgogne Franche-Comté and Inserm (French National Institute of Health and Medical Research).
Why establish a university hospital federation for rare diseases ?
Given that rare diseases and genomic medicine are a priority for both France and Europe (Rare Diseases National Plan 3 -- France Genomic Medicine Plan 2025), the burgeoning of new "high-throughput” DNA sequencing technologies within the last ten years is now bringing about a radical change in research prospects, as well as opening up new avenues for diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of these pathologies.
