An awareness pilot project in primary schools
On the basis of observations from members of the associations forming the TRANSLAD Educational Committee, a pilot project to create awareness about genetics and diversity among children was introduced in 2017. As children are, effectively, ambassadors to their families, they help to change parental perspectives. Consequently, several schools participated in this project.
Students from various levels (Year 2 to Year 6) are given talks on genetics by professionals from the clinical department or the research team, are made aware of diversity by patients’ associations and participated in experiments. These activities are a hit with students and teachers.
