A debate-discussion series of events for families

The FHU TRANSLAD multidisciplinary team has designed a series of debate-discussion evenings, for families, on various subjects of potential relevance to persons with disability. The number of seats is very limited in order to encourage opinions and discourse.

Thursday 28 April 2018: Debate-discussion evening on the privacy and sexuality of a child, adolescent or adult with intellectual disability

Coordinated by Sheila Warembourg, registered Sexologist and Public Health Practitioner
The evening began with the introduction of several ideas on private and emotional life and on male and female sexuality throughout life, in intellectual disorder cases. Next, strategies for dealing with private and emotional life and sexuality and creating communication spaces were described: your child’s or adolescent's privacy and your child coming of age; the privacy of each family member and privacy within an institutional setting.
This event brought together 20 parents. It was greatly appreciated by the families and promises to be the first of many future debate-discussion events on widely varying topics such as legal protection and the management of property belonging to persons over the age of 16 with intellectual disability.

Thursday January 31 2019 : Dabate-discussion evening on legal protection and wealth management for people aged 16 and over with intellectual disabilities

Coordinated by Me Hugues MISSEREY, registered honorary notary
During this evening, various themes were discussed, such as finance, legal protection and the future of young people with intellectual disabilities. Explanations have been given to families concerning, for example, social assistance, family empowerment or the distinction between guardianship and curatorship. The more general question concerning the future of their child was also addressed (Who will take care of our child?, can we leave him a small inheritance?, what will be his resources?).
Families are often helpless in the face of these questions, so it seemed important to be able to answer them.
